Legal online sports betting has arrived in Oregon.
After some launch delays, the Oregon Lottery rolled out its Scoreboard betting app in October 2019, pushing the Beaver State into the ever-expanding group of states with regulated sports betting.
Here, you will find more information about Oregon sports betting and how to place wagers in the state.
Oregon sports betting launch date
The Oregon Lottery had a few hiccups as it planned on a fall 2019 launch of its online sportsbook.
Initially, the lottery intended to roll out the Scoreboard app by September, just in time for football season. That date, though, came and went. Fortunately, the delay lasted only a few weeks, as the betting app, powered by SBTech, went live in October 2019.
The lottery plans a three-phase implementation period. Phase 1 began with online sports betting. Self-service sports betting kiosks and a version of the Sports Action parlay game will be deployed later.
Where to make legal sports bets in Oregon
There are a couple of ways to make bets in Oregon:
- Through the Oregon Lottery Scoreboard betting app, now available for download
- Two tribal casinos — Chinook Winds Casino Resort and Spirit Mountain Casino — have opened retail sportsbooks
As noted, the lottery plans on installing self-service kiosks at select Oregon Lottery retailers. So, hopefully, we can expect those in the near future.
In the mean time, if you want to make a sports bet, you will have to set up an online account or visit a tribal casino.
How to bet online with the Oregon sportsbook app
The first step is to set up an online account.
If you want to play on your mobile device, you’ll have to download the Scoreboard app, which is available for Android and iOS devices.
To sign up, all you have to do is fill in your basic personal information, add your email and choose a screen name and password.
Banking for Oregon online sports betting
When your Scoreboard account is set up, you need to make a deposit. Many options are in use in different states. Here are some possibilities:
- VIP Preferred (ACH)
- Play+ Prepaid Account
- Visa
- MasterCard
- PayNearMe
- Online Banking Transfer
- Transfer from Safekeeping
- Check
- Cash (from Casino Cage)
- PayPal
The Oregon Lottery will use its own preferred payment processors/financial service providers but should come up with a similar list.
Withdrawing from the Oregon sportsbook app
The great thing about online sports betting at a legal state-regulated sportsbook is that you know you can get your money back when you want it. Options include:
- Play+ Prepaid Account
- Bank Transfer
- VIP Preferred (ACH)
- Check
- Transfer from Safekeeping
- Cash (from the Casino Cage)
- PayPal
Notice not all withdrawal options are the same as deposit options.
List of Oregon tribal casinos that may have sportsbooks
When the tribal casinos get into sports betting, they will partner with sports betting providers to open retail sportsbooks and, perhaps, online options.
Chinook Winds was first to find a partner, Las Vegas Dissemination Company. The casino opened its retail sportsbook in August 2019, even before the Scoreboard betting app went live. Spirit Mountain entered the fold in September 2020, as its BetMGM sportsbook opened for business.
Other tribal casinos that could find sports betting partners include:
Casino | City | Tribe |
---|---|---|
Indian Head Casino | Warm Springs | Confederated Tribes of Warm Springs |
Kla-Mo-Ya Casino | Chiloquin | Klamath Tribes |
The Mill Casino & Hotel | North Bend | Coquille Indian Tribe |
Seven Feathers Hotel & Casino Resort | Canyonville | Cow Creek Band of Umpqua Tribe of Indians |
Three Rivers Casino | Florence | Confederated Tribes of Coos, Lower Umpqua and Siuslaw Indians |
Three Rivers Casino Coos Bay | Coos Bay | Confederated Tribes of Coos, Lower Umpqua and Siuslaw Indians (Class II) |
Wildhorse Resort & Casino | Pendleton | Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation |
The tribal compacts with Oregon allow the tribal casinos to offer any gambling that is allowed in the rest of the state. How many casinos will launch sportsbooks is unknown.
Oregon sportsbook possibilities
While most of Oregon’s sports bettors won’t recognize the SBTech brand, it will provide the sports betting platform for the Oregon Lottery, which will use its own brand for the service.
SBTech has similar partnerships with Churchill Downs in Pennsylvania and Mississippi, and with Resorts Casino and Golden Nugget in New Jersey. It also works with the Golden Nugget in Mississippi.
Other big-name brands will only enter the market if they can strike a partnership with one of the tribal casinos.
The tribes have a wide selection of sports betting platforms to choose from. Most are European companies eager to get a foothold in the US sports betting market. Companies active in the states where sports betting is legal include:
- 888
- BetStars
- DraftKings
- FanDuel
- GAN
- GVC
- IGT
- Kambi
- Kindred
- MGM
- NYX
- SBTech
- Scientific Games
- William Hill
What sports can I bet on in Oregon?
At least in the short term, the Oregon Lottery will only allow bets on pro sports, but not on college sports
However, that leaves a lot of sports to bet on. As a baseline, the following sports are definitely available
- Football (NFL)
- Baseball (MLB)
- Basketball (NBA)
- Boxing
- Golf
- Hockey (NHL)
- MMA
- Soccer
- Tennis
To this list, you can add some more exotic sports such as Aussie Rules football, cycling, cricket and rugby union. SBTech has all of these available on its platforms in other states.
Oregon sports betting basics
If you are not terribly familiar with sports betting, you may want to so some learning before placing a bet.
What do the odds mean?
In the list of available bets shown in your sportsbook, you will see a positive or negative number by each team. These are the moneyline odds. For example
- Green Bay Packers +220
- Chicago Bears -150
When there is a minus (-) you bet that amount to win $100; when there is a plus (+) you win that amount for every hundred dollars you bet.
This means that if you want to bet on the Packers, you have to bet $100 to win $220.
If you want to make a smaller bet you just scale down the winnings proportionally. If you only bet $20, then a winning bet would pay you 20/100 x 220 = $44. Plus you get your original stake of $20 back.
The negative numbers work slightly differently. If you want to bet on the Bears, you have to bet $150 to win $100. In this game the Bears are the favorites and the Packers are the underdog.
In this case a $20 winning bet would pay out 20/150 x 100 = $13.33 plus your $20 stake money back..
What are the different bet types?
There are many different ways to bet on sports. Of course you can simply bet which team will win a particular match, but there are other options. Betting on the score, or how specific players can perform. Betting on the league itself, or tying several bets together are all possible.
Here are the most popular bet types
Moneyline bet
Moneyline wagers are the simplest form of bet. You simply bet on which team will win a particular match.
Parlay bet
Parlay bets tie together several individual wagers. In a standard parlay, you select the winner for several games taking place on a specific day. You only win your bet if you predict every game correctly.
The more matches there are in your parlay, the bigger the odds against winning. But you can win a large sum for a small outlay — and if you lose you’ll have had a lot of fun, especially if you win the first few legs of the bet.
Spread bets
Spread bets act as a form of handicapping so that despite the odds, each team has the same chance of winning.
The sportsbook sets a spread based on the final score of a match. Obviously the favorite is expected to win, so the bookmaker sets a line. This is stated as a negative figure such as -20 for an NBA game.
The underdog also gets a line but this is expressed as a plus figure, such as +30.
- If you bet on the favorite and they win by more than the spread, you win.
- If you bet on the underdog and they lose by less than the spread you win.
The spread figure is always accompanied by the odds for each team beating the spread. You use these odds to calculate your potential winnings.
Futures
If you want to bet on who will win the next Super Bowl, a futures bet is the one for you. But again, the technology means that you can bet on many different things.
Futures bets can be on who will win a league, or even on how many points a player might score over a season. Each operator offers different varieties to bet on.
Total bets/Over Unders
With a total bet the winners don’t matter. The bet is on the total score of the game. The bookmaker quotes two prices, one for the “over” and one for the “under.” You win if you predict the score correctly to be over or under the quoted number
Teaser
The Teaser bet is similar to the simple parlay, but no moneyline bets are allowed. All the components of a Teaser bet are either totals, or spread bets.
With a Teaser, the bettor gets to adjust the point spread or the total up or down a certain number of points. That makes each part of the bet easier to win, so the odds are lower and the potential pay out is less.
Although Teaser bets can change the totals or spreads, each leg of the bet must use the same number of points. The elements of the teaser parlay can go in either direction—you don’t have to have all bets on the favorites or the underdogs.
As with all parlay bets, the more teams included in the Teaser the longer the odds and the higher the potential winnings.
Round Robin
If you want to lay several parlay bets at the same time, a round robin is the way to do it. You make a list of for example eight teams and select maybe three of them to make each parlay bet.
The round robin then creates a list of all the combinations of parlays for those three teams. It is hard to calculate all the odds manually, but modern technology means the website or mobile app will do all the work for you.
Does Oregon offer in-game betting?
In-game betting is relatively new to the US market. Up to 80% of bets placed in overseas markets are now made in-game, and New Jersey’s online operators are reporting similarly high figures.
In-game bets are wagers made after a game has started. There are two main types, updated bets and proposition bets.
An updated bet is simply a moneyline, totals or spread wager placed after an event starts. The technology used by the sports betting operators has advanced to the point where they can update the odds of any outcome as the game is playing.
In-game bets offer you the chance to double down on a bet that you think is a winner, or place another bet if you think your initial decision was wrong. They also help if you miss the chance to bet before the game starts — with the new technology, the betting window doesn’t close at kick-off.
Naturally, with its rising popularity, in-game wagering would make plenty of sense to include in the Oregon Lottery Scoreboard app. And indeed, Scoreboard offers in-game betting.
Oregon sports betting law and history
The existing law gives the Oregon Lottery broad authority to determine what games of chance it will provide. Any restrictions come more from the Lottery’s policies rather than from legislation.
Delaware Lottery Parlay Cards This Week
The Lottery has already said that it will restrict sports betting to pro sports. Sports bettors may not bet on college sports at the start.
The Lottery has a history of moving forward with caution. Back when Sports Action was the only sports betting game offered, the local NBA team, the Portland Trail Blazers was excluded from the parlay cards.
Sports Action started in 1989. This card-based parlay sports betting game is one reason why Oregon has not passed new sports betting legislation.
The Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act (PASPA) entered into law in 1992. It banned sports betting in all states where there wasn’t already legal provision. Four states met the carve-out, Nevada, Delaware, Montana and Oregon.
When the Supreme Court overturned PASPA in May 2018, states like New Jersey rushed to pass new laws to allow sports betting. In Oregon, the Lottery was certain that no new laws were required.

Frequently asked questions about betting in Oregon
Here are some other questions bettors might have about Oregon:
Can I play online poker and casino games?
There are no plans for the launch of casino games or online poker.
Assuming sports betting succeeds as well as it has in New Jersey and Nevada, Oregon legislators may be open to expanding their offer to include online poker and casino. This is unlikely for the next few years.
How old do you have to be to bet in Oregon?
The minimum legal age for betting in Oregon is 21.
What are new player bonuses and free bets?
In states where there is plenty of competition, sports betting operators offer attractive introductory offers to new customers.
These take the form of free-bets or some form of bonus wagering that matches your initial deposit. These really are free money, but they can take some effort to earn.
For example, the new FanDuelSportsbook in Pennsylvania is offering a $500 free bet to new customers. The deal gives you a free bet up to the size of your first deposit capped at $500.
You make your first bet after opening an account, and if you lose, your wager is credited back to your account. If you win the winnings are all yours.
It’s a good deal, and the only catch is that you have to wager the amount of the free bet before you can cash out your winnings.
Given the Oregon Lottery’s quasi-monopoly position in the market, it has less need to offer big bonuses. On the other hand it still needs to attract customers away from illegal offshore sites. The Lottery will probably strike a balance and offer new bettor bonuses that are at the low end of the usual range.
How do player loyalty programs work?
Delaware Lottery Parlay Cards College Football Scores
Most sports books offer customer loyalty or VIP schemes. These act as marketing incentives to reward regular players and encourage players to continue sports betting at their brand.
They work very much in the same way across all operators. Every $1 bet earns points in the loyalty scheme.
The sportsbook gives high volume bettors higher VIP levels offering extra benefits. Loyalty points can be converted into branded merchandise or used to buy extra bonuses or free bets.
Where the sportsbook is connected to a land-based casino there are often linked rewards. A typical offer might be for free meals or accommodation at the casino—all earned by online sport betting.
The tribal casinos will almost certainly offer these benefits if they enter the online market. The Oregon Lottery will probably follow suit. The VIP schemes are as much about retaining existing customers as acquiring new ones, so useful to all sportsbooks.
Can I use my sports betting account when I’m out of state?
Federal legislation prohibits sports betting across state lines, so you can only use your sports betting account when you are in Oregon. The geo-location technology is so good that the moment you cross the border your sportsbook will stop accepting bets.
You also won’t be able to bet on the Oregon Scoreboard app while on tribal lands in Oregon.
Are the odds the same as in Las Vegas?
Everything we have seen from online sports betting so far says that the odds you will get in Oregon will be substantially the same as the odds you would get if you were betting in Las Vegas.
Delaware Lottery Parlay Cards Football
Theoretically, sportsbooks could set different odds for different state markets. This doesn’t seem to be happening. Of course, charging different prices for the same product in different states would be bad PR. Perhaps more importantly it could also lead to sophisticated bettors gaming the system.

Oregon sports betting odds should be very much in line with the odds available in Las Vegas.
I’m betting at an offshore site. Why should I switch?
Offshore sports betting sites are illegal under US law. If that isn’t reason enough to switch to the legal market there are many others.
Delaware Lottery Parlay Cards College Football Scores For Today
The Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act of 2006 (UIGEA) made it illegal for the US financial system to process transactions to gambling sites that don’t comply with US law.
Delaware Lottery Pro Football Parlay Cards
All online gambling sites that are not licensed by a US state are breaking the law if they serve US customers.
No matter how well known or how apparently reliable an offshore operator appears, you have no legal recourse if anything goes wrong with your account.
Great reasons to leave your offshore operator and join the legal regulated market include:
- Better betting options and software.
- In-game betting is rarely available at offshore sites.
- Introductory bonuses are generally better at US sites because players’ average spend is higher.
- Deposits and withdrawals are fast and certain.
- You have legal protection for your funds.
- Revenues that flow offshore do nothing for the local economy
- Your money is not safe offshore! Many sites have gone bankrupt leaving no way for customers to get their money back.
Who is the regulator and how can it help me?
The five-member Oregon Lottery Commission (OLC) oversees the governance of the Oregon Lottery.
The governor appoints commission members for four-year terms. The State Senate confirms the appointments and then members serve at the pleasure of the governor.
Before sports betting goes live the OLC will need to establish a proper dispute and complaints procedure. This will be published in the terms and conditions.
In the event of any dispute with the Oregon Lottery over a sports betting issue, customers can seek help from the OLC to resolve the matter.
